Birch restaurant in Moss Vale just keeps going from strength to strength. Locals Renee and Glenn Wallace revamped the space that was Italian restaurant Fraccarro’s about five years ago and have excelled with the décor and exquisite dining experience. It is spacious and uncluttered with generous furnishings that a comfortable luxe Scandinavian style.

Birch Restaurant Menu

And it doesn’t stop there. The menu, created alongside award-winning head chef Lachlan Houghton, whose previous experience includes celebrated venues Eschalot, Vue du Monde, Saint Crispin, Elements at Byron and Three Blue Ducks, is exceptional.

Lachlan’s partner in culinary crime (seriously – the food is so good it is sinful) is Lucy Matheson, who has garnered her vast experience at Gazi, Vue Du Monde, Elements at Byron, Eschalot and Three Blue Ducks.

The talented team at Birch

I’ve been twice now and I have absolutely loved both occasions. There’s a great vegetarian selection on the menu. While I’m not strictly vegetarian, there’s nothing I love more than a good feast of fresh, seasonal vegetables and Birch certainly didn’t disappoint, with innovative preparation and serving methods, as well as unique taste combinations.

Birch restaurantOn my first visit, I ordered a la Carte, but on my second, I tried the vegetarian degustation. It was absolutely divine!

I couldn’t fault the service, either. The staff is engaged in the theatre of presenting and they serve the food with flourish. The servings are a perfect size and each one a visual delight that you just want to gaze at for ages before you tuck in.

As for the wine list, they’ve cultivated some of the finest local drops and you are spoiled for choice.

Authentically Amazing Food

But for all of the praise I’ve given it, what wraps it all up beautifully is its authenticity and welcoming ambience.

On Brich’s website, its philosophy reads:

“We are committed to delivering a unique dining ‘experience’ without pretentiousness or expectation – every gesture we make, every ingredient we place on a plate, every drop of winewe pour comes from a genuine and honest place. Every guest experiences our passion, graciousness and appreciation and our ability to deliver these standards, represents not only what we do, but who we are!

By choosing us [Birch] you have also chosen this philosophy.”

I am so in line with that and I do encourage all visitors to the Highlands and locals alike to try out this treasure of a restaurant!

Birch Store

During Covid, the clever team at Birch restaurant opened a providores store on Argyle Street in Moss vale (at the upper end). Its shelves are packed with pickles, preserves and jams, as well as homewares and delightful gifts. They will even put together a hamper for you – for a picnic or gift for a loved one. I do encourage you visit there.

Love, Di xx
