Celebrated artist Helen Gauchet judged the inaugural My Highland Home Art Prize, sponsored by belle property Bowral and offered by The BDAS Bowral Art Gallery, last month.

The winning entry was this stunning piece, ‘Shanti Ghar’ by local artist, Judith Weeks.

The winning entry for the 2018 belle property Bowral/Bowral Art Gallery Art Prize is ‘Shanti Ghar’ by local artist Judith Weeks. This acquisitive prize was then donated to be auctioned off to raise money for Buy a Bale charity to help our Aussie Farmers.

The Peoples’ Choice Award went to local artist Sonja Bowden for her beautiful work ‘Jumping Rock Bundanoon’ (below).

The art prize was a huge success, receiving over 90 entries, which is incredible for a community gallery and inaugural art prize.

On the night, when I announced the winner, I also announced that it was my intention to donate the winning painting to a silent auction, which was raising money for the amazing charity Buy a Bale, which is a not-for-profit aid organisation set up to help drought stricken Australian farmers and their animals.

Another entry, ‘One Day at a Time’ by Graham Sinclair, was sold on the night for $600. Graham kindly donated 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale to the drought aid organization too, so in total we raised $2100 for Buy a Bale.

Buy a Bale allows you to choose how your money is spent and indeed, where it is sent, so I divided the cash into buying bales, a tanker of water and hampers for the farmers and I nominated the central west of NSW.

And for all the budding or established artists out there, be sure to look out for this amazing art prize – same time, next year.

Love, Di xx
