Mother’s Day 2020 may not be the kind of celebration we had in mind, as Covid-19 restrictions prevent us from gathering together to honour and praise our cherished mothers and grandmothers.
However, they say that times of crisis are the ‘Mother’ of all invention (pardon the pun). And thanks to the typical resilience and ‘can-do’ attitude of Southern Highland small businesses, we can all ensure that our family matriarchs are thoroughly spoilt this Mother’s Day.
Here are a few of my favourite ways to let Mum know how much you love her!
SEND HER A PERSONALISED HEART SHAPED MOTHER’S DAY BROWNIE!
Mother’s Day just isn’t Mother’s Day without a decent serve of chocolate, and I’m currently salivating over new local business, Clementine and Cocoa.
The brainchild of local cook Sophia Azara, this wonderful business can personalise a deliciously large, eight inch heart-shaped brownie, decorated with a special assortment of sweets, and have it home-delivered to your Mum in time for Mother’s Day, for just $30 (delivery is free locally, but may incur costs for longer distances).
All dietary requirements can be catered to on request, whether vegan, gluten-free or lactose intolerant, and you can choose from a simple ‘Happy Mother’s Day Message’ or customise the white icing plaque to send a personalised message to Mum.
GIVE HER A STUNNING CARROT CAKE!
Berrima General Store and Cafe is offering two sizes of carrot cake for pick up or home delivery. Stunningly decorated, I have to say these are as delicious to eat as they are to look at. And being carrot cake, they’re healthy, right? Hahah!
Priced from $45 for 25cm (serves eight) and $55 for 27cm (serves 10). Delivery in the local area is free for orders over $55.
Make Mother’s Day Smell Sweeter!
For a gift that will keep on giving in the sweetest way, order Mum a Peppermint Grove Soy Wax Candle online! This local business is based in Braemar and offers free personalised engraving on each candle’s lid. My current fave scent is Burnt Fig and Pear, which is beautifully warming and grounding – perfect for the upcoming cooler months!
Send Some Whimsical Chocolate!
You can always count on Ms Peacock Chocolatier to offer up something outside the square on any occasion and once again, she has not disappointed! Check out her Honeycomb Smash Bar, from $7.50. It’s just melt-in-your-mouth terrific, made using local Southern Highlands honey! Choose to order online and pick up in store (open Fridays only at the moment), or delivery is free for orders over $60.
Go On A Truffle Hunt At Home!
For matriarchs with more of a savoury palate, the Truffle Men Gift Box contains Australian Sea Salt and black truffle, truffled olive oil, and caramelised balsamic vinegar, all sourced locally in Marulan! You can also choose from other delights including Truffle Honey Mustard Dressing and Truffle Ailoi.
Spoil Her With A Pamper Pack
Local beauty business, Bare Body Beauty has three gorgeous pamper packs for every different type of Mum. Moody Mum, $105, comprises Magic Magnesium to relax her muscles, Organic Herbal Tea of her choice, Bag of Organic Soap Pieces and a Body Scrub of her choice. Modern Mum, $163, features a Hemp Face Moisturiser, Cucumber Eye Cream, Hemp Face Wash, Body Scrub of her choice and an Organic Honey Lip Balm. Finally, Mature Mum, $173, features a Hemp Face Moisturiser, Cucumber Eye Cream, Bare Buff Face Wash, Magic Magnesium and a Body Moisturiser of her choice!
Give The Gift Of Massage!
The government has eased restrictions on remedial massage, so our local masseuses are back in business. I can’t imagine any Mum not wanting to be pampered in her own home with a massage!
Thrive Mobile Massage is a great service run by local Madalyn Humphries, where she brings the massage clinic to your home. Get in touch to buy a voucher for Mum, and then simply set a time that suits! Maddie brings everything – the table, towels, oils and her magic, healing hands. All you need to do is set the scene at home with some relaxing music and your Peppermint Grove scented candle.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the gorgeous Mums, grandmothers and Mums-to-be. While this year may be slightly out of the norm, I do hope you still have the most joyous day.
