This year’s Tulip Time Festival is only a few short days away, and the theme for this year’s floral extravaganza is delightfully whimsical.

It is a celebration of all things Mary Poppins!

As most Highlanders know, Bowral is widely thought to be the inspiration for the character of Mary Poppins, as the author of the book, Pamela L Travers, lived there during her teenage years.

This year, in what can only be described as a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious display of floral flamboyance, over 90,000 mass planted bulbs will colour the gardens and surrounding areas of Bowral and the Southern Highlands.

As Spring turns our natural environment into a kaleidoscope of colours, so too our local townships will come to life with daily live musical entertainment, market stalls and plenty of perfect photo opportunities!

Unlike most years, where the festival culminates in a street parade along Bong Bong Street Bowral, this year will see a stunning Twilight Festival beginning at Glebe Park, home of the stunning Mary Poppins sculpture by artist Tanya Bartlett, on Tuesday September 24.

Bring your lantern and meet at Glebe Park on Bowral Street, for the ‘turning’ of the Mary Poppins statue welcoming Spring and Tulip Time to Bowral. Then, follow the lantern procession to Corbett Gardens where you can join in the fun of a Mary Poppins themed carnival evening!

It will be such a wonderful family gathering and surely some very precious memories will be made.

Also important to note, this year’s charity partner is Variety, the Children’s Charity, which support kids who are living with disability or chronic illness, those who need critical care, or those who are facing financial hardship or geographic isolation. Tulip Time will be supporting this worthy organisation through all fundraising over the course of the festival.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Love, Di xx
