Biota Dining

Owned and run by Electrolux ambassador James Viles, this several-hatted restaurant is an integral part of the Southern Highlands landscape and shouldn’t be missed, whether you’re a long-time local, have just moved here or you’re just visiting for a weekend.

Its diverse and always mouth-watering menu is closely tied to the quirks of Mother Nature, and at any given time you might be eating locally caught marron, fresh seafood from the nearby Illawarra and Shoalhaven districts, or Moss Vale-raised grass fed beef, paired with local seasonal vegetables.

There’s a strict ‘domestic only’ policy for the wine list, showcasing local smaller producers and winemakers, which we absolutely adore (support local, we always say!).

A fabulous new addition to the restaurant, which I am loving for my grandchildren at our family gatherings, is the outdoor dining space, known as Biota Parklands.

It has a playground for the kids, and plenty of grass to pull up a picnic rug and enjoy snacks and drinks from the restaurant.

It’s an ideal way to enjoy a beautiful Southern Highlands afternoon and throughout the winter months, a special roast will be on offer.

Larger groups can book an outdoor table and enjoy a family-style ‘Chef’s Selection’ for around $60 a head.

For a truly Highlands-specific experience, book a Biota Gather and Cook outing, $185 per person. Guests arrive at the restaurant at 9am for coffee and snacks, before setting off into the ‘wild’ to forage for ingredients with the chefs, before cooking and eating lunch in an outdoor setting.

Don’t miss it – you’ll love every second of being out in the fresh Highlands air and foraging for ingredients for your meal.   Love, Di xxx
